EVENTS COORDINATOR

Last year in NYC, I did a Cabaret at the Slipper Room called Naughty Nautical Night (NNN) We are beginning to coordinate NNN PDX @ the FEZ in downtown PDX as well as a series of daytime weekend tea parties. Definitely NNN and maybe the tea parties I could possibly pay, but it depends on self motivation and how many people show up at the events. The NNN involves; an MC, a DJ, Nautical themed dancing girls and costumes, musical comedy, variety acts, burlesque, circus...stage hands, PR (real and virtual promotions) etc.
Job Description: deciding on themes, setting up dates for shows (bookings), talent coordination ie calling cast and crew, PR, providing PR to crew and cast to help ie delegating promotion. Again, there can be $ in this for you, it depends how well you do this job. For tea parties, same as above, but way less hectic.

CARPENTER

I have a 1902 craftsman house I live in, a door in the house won't shut, I need it fixed so the door can latch. That is my practical request, also I need help building bookshelves. My whimsical request is this...I have a crawl space that I want to put musical equipment in, but I want it to double function as a doll house for my doll, Isabelle. If you can do the door, but not the doll house, that's ok, but the door is a necessity and emergency right now. Thank You!

Love,
Dame Darcy

For a strange and coincidental reason I was recently interviewed by two ladies who have completely separate worlds but they are both named "Cat" MEOW! Here are the interviews:
------------->JACKIE AND LEILANI PLEASE LINK CUT OUT AND KEEP HERE

10 Things We Always Ask… by Kat Burke to be seen on NIMBIT.com

1. Tell us a bit about your music. What is your style, do you have an album out?

I am originally a folk musician. My first instrument was an autoharp when I was 5, I used to do shows and perform with my Dad, and I come from a cowboy poet musical and artistic family that currently still live on the ranch in Idaho like they have for the last century.  My Dad taught me how to play banjo when I was 10 , but I was influenced by new wave and death rock synth stuff when I was a teenager in the 80's. That’s when I learned to play electric bass.
When I went to the San Francisco Art Institute after I graduated High School I started playing in really weird and psychedelic theatrical/punk rock noise and experimental groups. Caroliner and Suckdog were my first bands and tours. I put out several 7inch's and comic books that I drew with tapes etc. And was included on Kill Rock stars compilations etc. I did a 7 inch with the cocktails, another cartoonist musician Archer Prewitt, who is currently in Sea and Cake.
This was mostly doing weird experimental music but with folk instruments, banjo, singing saw, autoharp. Now I'm bi costal NY-LA I do experimental dark wave and psychedelic folk rock. My latest release was the Death By Doll CD that was released last fall, it is the sound track for Gasoline, my next graphic novel and feature film and will be included with the book. Death By Doll is moving more into the experimental folk thing with our next album. More banjo and sea shanties. You can still get the limited editions of some of my 7 inches and the latest Death By Doll release on Dame Darcy.com

2. How old were you when you first performed for an audience?
I remember singing with my Dad at a festival when I was about 3

3. Where was your first performance?
My first shows were in bluegrass festivals. My Dad had a band but he thought it was cute to have me perform with them I guess.
My first shows on my own were in San Francisco, I joined Caroliner because I could play both the electric bass and banjo and we had these 20 ft tall florescent props and everything and everyone was dementedly surreal. I also had long florescent green hair and a corset with forks and a spinning roulette wheel five feet around. there were 3 girls on trampolines drumming and my boyfriend had a  bucket of mechanical bees on his head and two arms to play guitar and a tutu. This was all constructed by Grux and I spent about a year and a half when I was 18 as his assistant. He was also my best friend at the time. Caroliner Rainbow was based on a story about a singing bull named Caroliner Rainbow in the 1800's, which grux would dress like.

The other band I was in, Suckdog, was   a demented operatic performance troupe created by Lisa Carver that went along with her zine Rollerderby, on our first tour we sang with music orchestrated by Jean Louis Costes who is completely insane. Our characters were Siamese twins who were cut in half by a retarded French Canadian lumberjack then raped and killed. We had glitter, fake blood, air freshener and fake flowers, as part of the show Jean Louis threw up spinach on everything and shot milk out of a turkey baster that looked like a giant penis, this is when he was the Salami Swami. At CBGB's we attacked Matt Dylan. We put money down his pants. After all this I became part of a simple bluegrass band called Grouse Mountain Skyride. Very simple and acoustic.

4. Are you a schooled musician or are you self-taught?
I was taught by my Dad but then I went on from there. I remember my Dad saying, "I'm going to teach you how to read music, so you learn the right way from the start" But I don't know how to read music still, I also took a class in Jr. High, I remember this, how I read music. But I forgot. I wish I could read music now. I do everything by ear. My band mate Skippy was all fancy music schooled, so he can adapt to my hillbillyness.

5. What/who are your biggest influences?
As a kid, I kind of did a lot of what I do now, drew endless books and listened to records. They worked all day. Their record collection was all I knew. My favorite and earliest music was stuff they had, Donovan a gift from a flower to a garden was my favorite childhood record, also, God Bless Tiny Tim, I can still sing every word of every song on these front to back. The Kinks, The sonics, Johnny Cash,  The Stones and the Beatles of course, and folky girls like Joan Baez and Carly Simon. And the assorted kids records like the pirates of the Caribbean, and the Alice in Wonderland soundtrack.
Then as a teenager my favorite bands were the Swans, Joy Division, Suicide, Siouxsie, Fetus, Bauhaus, The Sugar Cubes, OMD, The Cure , Mark Almond, Sonic Youth, Royal Trux, The smiths, Diamanda Galas, Psychic TV, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Echo and the Bunnymen, Big Black, The Cocteau Twins, Jesus and Mary Chain, and industrial stuff like Coil, skinny puppy, Ministry, and weirder stuff like Severed Heads, Clan of Xymox, and classics like Brian Eno, Bowie, and The Velvet underground.

In my early 20's I really liked Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra, Scott Walker, Nico, the old folkways stuff like the carter family, and  Hindi Musical soundtracks, 20's jazz like Bix Biderbech, also I knew a lot of people that played the Space aged bachelor pad stuff like Mancini, Esquivel, and Yma Sumac.
I liked Babes in Toyland too and Bikini Kill and that whole resurgence of girl/rock music.

I had a really crazy collection of 78's and a victrolla then but i had to leave it in NY when I moved and I'm sure my ex threw them all out by now. 78's are hard to carry, fragile and heavy. I have a victrolla now but it took me a decade to collect those records and they are more rare than ever now. My ex threw away my alice in wonderland paintbox from when I was a kid and my dolls too.

6. How do you generally promote yourself? Who handles most of the “business stuff”?
Dame Darcy.com is under a revision process now where we are starting a community and links, I guess my main promotion comes from just doing shows, and through my comic book Meat Cake. I have a business manager who used to represent Sheppard ferry (you know, Obey the giant) and awesome assistants who I love. The record label that Death By Doll is on Emperor Penguin Records, is cool, they help out. But I want a PR person who handles everything for me all the time, I want it more than I want my wedding.

7. Do you currently have a day job outside of performing?
No, I make a living publishing comic books and graphic novels and doing freelance design and animation work and selling my fine art illustrations from my books and dolls and paintings.
The music down loads and sales from DD.com help, but they are not my main source of income.
I'm starting an awesome new game to play on DD.com based on Meat Cake with dolls and music to down load from a virtual victrolla. The glory is now dawning!

8. What do you think sets you apart from other artists out there?
I definitely have my influences and I know I influence as well but no one sounds like me or draws like me. This is a good thing in a way because if you like what I do I've got the market cornered. But if someone doesn't like it. Then they don't. I have a distinct taste and thankfully enough people like it that I can make a living. Otherwise I'd be dead in the water.

9. What are your musical goals for the year ahead?
To have my graphic novel Gasoline published and have the Death By Doll CD included with it. Also to record the next DXD release. and put out an experimental 7 inch with a little comic book.

10. Do you have any guilty music pleasures? (You know you love Kelly Clarkson admit it!)
I sometimes really love super faggy electronic dance music. It makes me feel all hot pink and want to jump around like a girl. Like when I was 14 listening to The Sparks,( but today’s version of that) that comes on the radio. I listen to the radio a lot.
I also get all PMS emo and listen to Patsy Kline, and Dolly Parton.
my Favorite current bands are Robbie D's version of Dolly, Radiohead, Ladytron, Fischer Spooner, and I really love the Vanishing, Mount Simms, Glass Candy, Get Hustle, Peaches, Nora Keyes, you know...

Patron Saint/Hand book for hot witches sex magic combo pack

Helen of Troy.

She had the face that would launch a thousand ships. Jeez Helen, what the hell (en) did she look like? I imagine her as a raven haired beauty, then as a gossamer blonde. Tall and lanky, then small and curvy. Grecian profile, then Elvin and Japanese looking. It drives me bonkers. I guess it doesn't matter. The whole purpose to this is to tap into the Helen in you. Here's a few tricks but be careful, if they are used the wrong way it can cause harm to you or you will have a power unleashed onto men that could be deemed black magic if you use it in the wrong way.
Elecampane (Inula helenium) was named after her. she carried it with her when she fled from Paris. To carry this with you will increase your elegance, charm, and confidence.
Thyme derives from Helen's tears and thus shares her essence. Bathe in an infusion of thyme and you will radiate the power of a LOVE MAGNET. But use with caution, Helen was kidnapped twice!
Helen had a magic ring.  Find a ring like this for yourself and you will have powerful magic that will respond to your every desire. This ring has a signet of an image of pan. It will make any one you want fall immediately in love with you. Think about what you are doing, don't torture an innocent. To draw your TRUE LOVE twist your magic ring (be it the Helen one or any other) three times. This is a fairy way.
Yawn, so by the way, there is sex magic to pop the soul out of your lovers body. I have to really think about this before I post it because it can be considered black magic. But then again do men really have souls anyway?
Just kidding , HA HA HA HAAAAAAA!

Love Letter/ Current Affairs

Why some people are afraid of dolls:
My psychic witch friend said its really healthy for people with control issues to love dolls because they are something that one can completely control and project what ever they want to on. They also exist in a place between the living and the dead, between an object and an entity. They are not alive yet they have their own personality, thus they exist in a magic realm and a place that cannot be nailed down by fact. This threatens people who govern their lives by fact and not magic. It also confronts their own suspended disbelief. For example, the doll is looking at them but it can't rationally see them. This scares them.

Movie Review: Gone With The Wind
I had insomnia last night because I drank too much “poo-ping dieters tea”  from china town. Thus I watched the entirety of Gone With the Wind from 3:30 pm to 8 am. I thought I had seen this movie before, but because of my ADD I had only seen some parts of it.
Before last night I thought it was about Charlotte O harra being slutty and mean, then for some reason trying to find a Dr. for a woman giving childbirth in the middle of an attack on the south during the civil war. And finally about a little girl who falls off a horse and dies. I used to think, ”G.W.T.W. been there done that, I like costume dramas (surprise surprise) I saw it, but whatever…” but in actuality, once really seeing it, even though Charlotte is the embodiment of unadulterated evil, its one of the most feminist movies I have ever seen!
It also gets really gothic. Here’s an example, when the little girl dies, her daddy is locked in a room with her for two days staring at her prone corpse laid out on a bed surrounded by hundreds of lit tapers and says “I can’t put her in the ground because she is afraid of the dark.”
Also, here’s what star signs I think Charlotte O Hara is: I think she’s a Gemini with a Scorpio rising, here’s why, Because she is a Gemini she can not make up her mind about which man she truly loves, red head kind of sissy boy Ashley ( I had a childhood friend named after him after their mom saw G.W.T.W while pregnant) or cad Rhett. So she opts to only marry men she can use for their money, very cunning and Gemini male dominated logical thinking of her.
She is very outgoing, flirting with everyone during the whole movie, (always the slutty scorpio) and borderline psychotic (Gemini again), during the movie she slaps Ashley, pulls her sisters hair then slaps her again in another scene, smashes a slave girl in the face with her fist  (the actors name in real life is Butterfly, and is one of my favorite characters in this movie, she should have had a bigger role. I love her crazy voice) and tries to claw Rhetts eyes out (but instead falls down the stairs and miscarries her unborn child) shoots a yank in the stomach, etc. but is also a savvy businesswoman.
Her life goes from spoiled opulence to rags.
Here’s where she gets crafty (I really admire her for this part because its how I live my own life everyday) and makes a luxurious green velvet gown from the parlor drapes.
If it wasn’t for this dress she wouldn’t be able to marry her sisters beaux for money (C. O’H. 2nd husband) that dies and leaves Charlotte a widow for the second time and she hasn’t even hit 30 yet.
She wouldn’t be able to get away with this survivalist plan through evil if she wasn’t really beautiful and really skinny! I can’t get over the scene where after she has had her baby, her mammy is strapping her into her corset and Charlotte exclaims “Oh, I guess I’m resigned to havin’ a 20 inch waist instead of 18 inches like I was before the baby, oh fiddle-lee dee!”
Here’s where she gets republican and uses prisoners of war to make her fortune again when she invests in lumber to rebuild the burned down city.
She then is the embodiment of unapologetic evil and I see now how rich republicans think when she wallows in her luxurious silken bed, eating and eating, finally rich again off the work and backs of the prisoners and exclaims to Rhett, her 3rd husband who she has married again for money “I’m so happy, because we’re so rich!”
However, Karma catches up with Charlotte, and she does not go unpunished.
Both her children die and she ends up alone because her husband abandons her, which shouldn’t be a surprise because he abandons her periodically through out the movie.
Money does not buy happiness Charlotte… but hats off to you for driving your own carriage!

Patron Saint: Tasha Tutor.

Some people have fetish, I have Tasha Tutor.
She makes me want to tie on my bonnet REAL TIGHT!
I was given this awesome book by my lovely and talented assistant and friend Leilani and haven’t stopped reading it since, in fact, as my paramour was trying to have sex with me I told him to wait because I had to read it all the time.
Tasha is an 80-year-old lady who lives in her little hand-crafted world from 1830.
She doesn’t have running water or electricity and gets her milk from goats, grows her own garden and flax, then weaves her own cloth on a loom.
“Candles are flattering to an old face. I’ve always used them, and kerosene lamps. However, you have to watch that candle, and warn children not to lean over them. I was as nervous as a cat when my children had visitors, because it’s very easy to set your hair alight. Boswell mentions how old Samuel Johnson, who was absentminded and nearsighted, was constantly scorching his wig.
Everyone says my house is dark, but people don’t realize how dark old houses were. I love it dark. It’s a nice chipmunk’s nest.” ~Tasha
After all this she hangs out with little girls and lovely young ladies in cotton dresses drinking tea and playing with baby ducks and her pet snake.
Here’s what Tasha says” In spite of all the pollutions and horrors, how beautiful this world is. Supposing you saw the stars only once every year. Think what you would think. The wonder of it!”
Here’s another quote:” I call flowers by their old colloquial names. Dame’s Rocket, Sweet William, Monks hood, and Meadow Rue, the old fashioned names are much prettier. Delphinium are always called “Larkspur”. Clematis Autumnale was “Virgin’s Bower” The sound of “Fox glove” is so much more pleasant than “digitalis”
(By the way Tasha, I think fox glove look like cute little foxgloves.)
Ok, because she is my fetish, I have to quote her again on women’s fashions of today, which I very much agree with for my own personal style”Why do women want to dress like men when they’re fortunate enough to be women? Why loose our femininity, which is one of our greatest charms? We get much more accomplished by being charming than we would by flaunting around in pants and smoking. I’m very fond of men. I think they’re wonderful creatures. I love them dearly. But I don’t want to look like one. When women gave up their long skirts they made a grave error. Things half seen are much more mysterious and delightful. Remember the term “A neatly turned ankle”? Think of the thrill that gentlemen used to get if they even caught a glimpse of one. Now women go around in their union suits. And what a multitude of sins you could cover up with a long skirt if you had piano legs.”
Here’s the real kicker, she draws really detailed illustrations of fairies in nature and hand crafts her own dolls. It’s totally my dream retirement program, if only I didn’t want to socialize as much as I do. I wish I could just be happy the way Tasha is. After reading the book I recognized one of the illustrations from a children’s book I had in 1977 The Tasha Tudor Book of Holidays, given to me for Christmas by my Great Grandmother, (God rest her cowgirl soul). It REALLY influenced me a lot and I remember having that jealous feeling even then of all the fun Tasha has.  I feel like a poser next to her.
Here to you Tasha for being truly pagan and for being Buddhist with out even trying.
Also dear reader, if you have made it this far, do you think I’m going crazy?

Lucky Bat Spell, Ling Nut
The dried seedpod of Trapa bicornis known in Chinese as a ling nut or ling ho is a kind of water chestnut. It is used to draw good fortune. Depending on how you look at it, it resembles a bat. (Turn it around and it resembles a goat’s head, that’s another spell) Hang the dried pod on your wall or carry it as a charm bag.

*Love Letter / Current Affairs

So, despite what it seems I do spend a lot of time reading. The latest book right now is by my dead king Philip K. Dick. His book, The three stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, is about how the world is going to get so hot from global warming that Mars and other planets are colonized. However, the condition of human kind on Mars etc. and earth is so unbearable that, to escape it, most people play this weird doll house game. They chew drugs and feel like a doll named Perky Pat. The drug pusher is a dwarf named Impy White. It's also about business men/women who are paid as precognizant witches to tell corporations what is about to be in fashion.
This is my favorite P.K.D. book to date! Also, reading it I know a few more things about my king.
1) Why he killed himself
2) That he actually could see into the future and predict global warming. He also was skitzo and in a Joan of Arc fashion was channeling messages from "god" about the condition of modern humankind and where this was all going to go.
3) The fact that he was a self diagnosing drug addict gave him insight into the way an alarming amount of today’s populace in Industrialized (and 3rd world) countries are all on mind altering drugs to be able to cope with "reality".
The only answer/alternative I have to any of this is Buddhist Philosophy. Which says: Life is suffering, deal with it by living every moment as it is and not being neurotic and thinking about the past and future all the time though its ok to know the past does influence you and ground you and the future is something to look forward to and plan for.
Both extremes of how and where we live, the ugly evils of this world and all the beautiful architecture /fountains/libraries/trees were only once dreams. Dream and manifest beauty and it will happen. If the popular consciousness is in a drug induced nightmare then it will manifest.

Grandma Moses
I love Grandma Moses. She looks like the cutest little granny apple doll in her adorable lace dresses. She worked really hard her whole life on different farms and came from a large family where half her siblings died, then gave birth to 10 children and half of them died too. But despite this Grandma Moses is not morbid at all. I really wish she was alive today to speak about her philosophy about death because her paintings are so alive and beautiful. Though she was not a trained artist she captures the feeling of a cold morning in the woods, a scared horse, or a wind storm. All her people are dolls. After her husband died, she started her fine art career at the age of 70 and lived to be 101! Because of all the love. I cried when I read that.

How to care for a foundling new born kitten
1) Keep their core temperature up by wrapping them in a blanket + put them with a hot water bottle in a basket.
2) A clock will simulate the heart beat
3) feed them watered down baby formula with an eye dropper. Every 2 hrs. day and night until they open their eyes.
4) Pet them to simulate the mommy cat licking them to make them pee and also on their fur all over.
My friend brought a basket of new born kittens to a little girl and it was all so cute I wanted to die from cuteness!

Art is immortal! The goal is for the legacy of magic and the beauty of our
environment to live on for
generations of humans, animals, and the earth forever.
Congratulations damedarcy.com community members! Our global community is now
officially 10,000! To celebrate this , we are in the process of setting up a
way for everyone to talk to each other, meet and swap ideas, art etc. it's
important in this lonley virtual world for those kids in the middle of
desolate places like where I was in high school to make weirdo friends like
themselves and not feel alone, but to revel in the glory of what it's like
to be unique, witchy, and magic!
